JAZ’S JOURNAL - SEPTEMBER 2026

New blog segment alert!!!

I humbly present Jaz’s Journal. Every month, I’m going to randomly draw three journal prompts out of a wee jar on my desk to answer truthfully for the world to see. Plus, every month I’m going to throw in 5 random things that have a hold of me right now. Songs, books, poems, places, people, foods, movies, activities, whatever.

This all feels a little more self indulgent than what I’m used to. Maybe people will read these, maybe they won’t. I’m doing it in case there are folks out there interested to get an unfiltered look into my life and my favourite things.

It’s also another means of accountability for me. I’m notoriously bad at maintaining a journal, so hopefully the added pressure of a deadline and online publication will help my consistency? I also just really want to write more. We should all write more.

So without further ado, here’s me doing all of the above!

1. What's something I did that scared me, and I did it anyway?

I cancelled some plans.

It sounds trivial in such plain terms, but it can be a hard thing for me to admit to myself when I’ve overcommitted or rushed into something!

I’ve been super excited since June about bringing these plans to life, these plans were the first step in making it real, so it felt like it would be a failure to pull the plug on it. I consulted the pendulum, the cards, and the answers were as cryptic and inconsistent as they get, so that sent me into a further tailspin, questioning my intuition, my discernment, my gifts.

I sat with the fear for a few days.

The fear that if I cancelled it now, it would never come to life.

The fear that if I did it, and it didn’t go well, it would be spoiled forever.

The fear that this dream wasn’t mine to dream.

After conversations with a few folks, some introspection, some visualization, some more cards and pendulum action, I made the call. It’s not time… YET.

2027, here’s looking at you.

2. Who or what supported me this month that I haven't publicly thanked?

I’ve never been the best at accepting help or support, but I’m getting better at it!

Gratitude to:

My beautiful collaborators (the old ones and the new ones!), for good conversation, perspective and inspiration.

My love, for helping set up and pack down mats at a sold out event when my pack-in timing was tight.

My sister, who is juggling a toddler and a four month old, but is helping me by posting flyers in places I can’t get to.

My clients, for being a part of the magic, being a source of the magic, and being wide open to receiving.

My parents, who I can lean on when it comes to the hard decisions, even when they’re in another timezone.

3. What am I taking into next month — habit, mindset, or unfinished thread?

I’ve started really focusing on physical movement again in the past week, and I’m super motivated to carry that forward. I’ve felt slow, stuck and sore in my body for a little too long now, and enough is enough!

I’ve been doing some somatic workouts via The Class (two week free subscription, get amongst it). I feel like this might have been an absolutely unhinged first step, they’re pretty intense. But I’m feeling dedicated to showing up and giving it my best for whatever reason, so I’m running with this zero to one hundred vibe! The first class I did, I had a little emotional moment about how cool it is to see a high intensity workout class, but with grounding, heart opening, somatic movement and sounding. It’s an interesting set up - there are on demand classes available, but you can also tune into live classes at one of their US based studios (which I’m finding really cool and way more engaging than something prerecorded!) But the time difference does suck, at this stage there are only a few classes a week that are at suitable times for me.

Today I tried reformer pilates for the first time with Luci at Balance Bloom, it felt sooooo good. My freshly sore muscles got a yummy stretch, whilst also doing the work! It was nice to experience certain movements that I’m used to doing in a standing position in a new way, a way that has much less impact on the body. Less “oooh my knees hate this” and more “oh my thighs are loooooving this”.

I’m also trying to throw a bit of yoga into the mix, if I can make time to doom scroll and hang out with my cat, I can make time to be with my body for half an hour. Shout out to Yoga With Adrienne on YouTube and her gorgeous dog Benji (who reminds me so much of the pup I grew up with).

As the days get warmer and longer I’m hoping to get back out on the trails too, get some swims in. I live minutes away from some magical places and I just need to get off my arse and get amongst it, gosh darn it!!

I’m also gonna make a more concentrated effort to go to Ecstatic Dances, because wow, those things can really get a sweat on. Plus it’s just nice to be in that community vibe! Shout out Manawa, Jessie and her team are absolute dynamite.

I want to dance, gallop, leap my way through this summer and beyond. No more of this plodding around feeling 10 years older than I am!

Apart from all the body stuff, I really feel like putting this concentrated effort into movement is going to have a ripple effect into my spiritual and mental wellness. Gotta hit it from all angles. Excited to witness the benefits.

5 THINGS THAT HAVE A HOLD OF ME RIGHT NOW:

1. The “Juno” Soundtrack

This collection of songs has my heart!! It’s so full of charm but also silly little lyrical moments that make you go “wait.. did they just say that?” Admittedly, I know it almost word for word; when I was in school I would put the CD on before bed and fall asleep to it. This soundtrack found its way back into my life a few weeks ago and it’s been on repeat ever since. It’s full of absolute TUNES though. I have a soft spot for Jason Bateman and Michael Cera (Arrested Development fans, where you at?), so I may need to watch the movie again soon.

2. Two Raw Sisters Scroggin Clusters

You’ll have to get a free trial of the Two Raw Sisters app to get this recipe (be warned - you’ll wanna stick around), but oh my days. No word of a lie, the Mr and I have been living on this stuff since July. Such a good sweet treat to tide you over on the go, or at work, or as a little treat after dinner. We now have an assigned “scroggin cluster container” in the fridge, and I never let it get empty. What I like about it is that you can mix it up with the nuts and seeds you use. I mostly do a combo of almonds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds, but can also recommend hazelnuts, macadamias and cashews. Whatever you’ve got it the cupboard really. Oh, and I use the Whittakers dark block for the choccy (there’s always a few pieces left over, which I quite fancy).

3. The Daily Loaf Rosemary Sourdough

If you live near Glen Eden, I must implore you to get a loaf from The Daily Loaf. Wow wow wow. An almost weekly ritual now. Yuuuuum.

4. Below Deck Reruns

Massive guilty pleasure right now. It’s streaming live almost constantly on ThreeNow, and I’m finding it absolutely fascinating. I’m learning so much about human behavior. For those that don’t know, Below Deck is a reality show that centers on the crew of a Superyacht for the duration of a charter season. It’s all obviously very overdramatised by heavy-handed producers, but between the affluent charter guests and the crew of beautiful yet deeply flawed individuals, I’m a little bit hooked. I actually WOULD NOT recommend this, I’ve now maybe spent far too much time watching this brain rot. But we’ve all got our vices!

5. Making Stuff

I’m getting properly back into sewing, and LOVING IT! I make monumental mistakes that take massive amounts of time to remedy, but that’s almost the best part, because I’m learning what not to do, and finishing better than I started every time. I’m finding it almost meditative to focus in on the fractals of fabric as it takes shape as a garment before my eyes. I’ve got so many plans for Christmas and birthday gifts. I’ve got a wedding to attend next year, so I’m also starting to collect a few little inspo images for what I could create to wear, and that is making me very giddy! I’m so looking forward to filling my wardrobe with garms made by me.
